flowers at the edge of the labyrinth at Holy Family Episcopal Church here in Jasper. This is an especially holy place for me because it was built in honor of my late mother, Kathryn Floyd.

one boot

I found this boot in an abandoned shack in rural north Georgia, where it was keeping company with some old country music eight-track tapes and a whole bunch of Army canteens.

This is a crop of an old shack off of Jones Woods Road in rural Walton County, Georgia, not far from where I grew up. I was trespassing, I guess. Not the first time; probably not the last.

This is a picture of a little pillow I found at a local thrift store. I don't remember what the wooden peg is a part of, aside from a family of shadows.

enough

I have little altars all over the place at my house. This one consisted of a big swatch of starry red fabric that once acted as a backdrop for student work on my classroom bulletin board, along with a small mossy branch, the fortune cookie you see, a white feather gathered at the local park, and a hunk of energetic red stone whose name I still don't know.

Burnt Mountain overlook, snow week afternoon

I took this picture around 5 p.m., so really this photograph is a projection of sorts into an imagined evening of moon and sky at the Burnt Mountain overlook. Being at the overlook was a powerfully energizing movement into fresh space after several days of restlessness on the heels of an unexpectedly intense snowstorm that stopped my usual world for a week.

leafcreature in shallow pool of winter rainwater

I took this picture at my dad and stepmom's place in Monroe, Georgia, on Christmas 2009. The leaf seems to me to want to be a creature of some sort, perhaps a groundhog or other small ground-dwelling mammal. I called this effect out a bit by playing with the contrast in the photograph but did not do anything else to settle it there.
